Presidential Election Moments: Reagan wins over doubters with youth and inexperience debate quip

We don’t know yet whether history from 40 years ago is going to repeat itself, or rhyme, or simply go in the opposite direction.

In 1984 we had President Reagan, who was clearly aging and had an awful first debate. He went into the 2nd debate with everyone wondering if he really was too old for another term as president. And then he came out with this line in the 2nd debate.

Somehow, with that little quip, Reagan endeared himself to everyone. Even Mondale couldn’t help but laugh. Ronald Reagan went on to win 49 states so clearly the country was convinced that he wasn’t too old.
